I have been reading the book of Isaiah. I was so struck by Isaiah chapter 6. Isaiah sees a royal vision of an all powerful, Holy God. His response is to realize his own sinful state. In Isaiah 6:5 he says, “Then I said, "My destruction is sealed, for I am a sinful man and a member of a sinful race. Yet I have seen the King, the LORD Almighty!" Isaiah sees his sin and the sin of his people. He knows he deserves destruction. But, I love the word “yet.” Because Isaiah had witnessed the majesty of the King of Kings, the great Lord Almighty, he was forever changed.
Life lesson: Be changed by His presence
The response to Isaiah’s realization of his own sin state is amazing. Isaiah was crying out lamenting the fact that he was a man of unclean lips, the response is found in Isaiah 6:7, the Lord sends one of the seraphim and Isaiah says, “He touched my lips with it and said, "See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven." Did you catch it? His guilt was removed, because his sins were forgiven! I know coming into the presence of a Holy God is so threatening. His Holy presence shows us our sin nature. His truth shows our failure. We feel guilty. The enemy wants us to stay in that guilt. He wants us to hate truth and avoid it at all cost. "YET" when we have seen the Lord, we are changed. He wants to take away the guilt and remove the shame. He wants to forgive our sins! How does it happen? When we realize we are sinful and miserable without Him. When we come into His presence and see ourselves as undone and sinful. We realize how perfect and Holy He is. We worship and repent, and he forgives and restores. He used Isaiah in a mighty way after this encounter. He wants to use you too! Don’t stay shackled by the guilt. Your sins can be forgiven. He has a plan for you!
