Defining moment...

More than 2 years ago (it was one of those defining moments, so I remember) I was talking to Brian about something the Lord was revealing to me and he stopped me and emphatically said, "You are beautiful."  I said, "thanks" a bit flippantly and kept talking.  He stopped me again and said, "NO, God told me!  You are beautiful."  With a little giggle not quite sure how to respond, I said, "Well then, thanks to Him."
Life lesson:  You ARE beautiful
This morning I went to 5 am prayer time at church. (which has become my favorite time of the week!) I read Song of Songs, chapter 6.  The young man talks about how perfect the young woman is.  He describes her teeth, hair, and well you know… it is the Song of Songs.  God called me to read each chapter as His love letter to me.  I see this chapter as the Lord talking about His perfect creation...that includes ME!  I am beautiful to Him.  I allowed that to flow over me like a cool rain shower.  It was so refreshing!  (I knelt at the altar in my yoga pants, t-shirt, no makeup, glasses, hair in a bun, and I KNEW my beauty.)  It is so hard to believe He, who knows my inmost thoughts (Psalm 51:6), sees me as beautiful.  What a great, loving God!
This morning when I got into the car to head to school, the radio was blaring (Brian drove it last). The very first words I heard, blaring to the Heavens, were:
You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You are treasured, You are sacred, You are His
You're beautiful
(Mercy Me, Beautiful, KSBJ 89.3, 4/1/11 6:50 a.m.)

WOW!  I let a few tears fall and I basked in His love and adoration for just a moment.  I am beginning to understand the fact that HE REALLY DOES see ME as beautiful.  We are His creation, just as we stand in awe of the heights of the majestic mountains, are overcome with the depth of the sea and the expanse of the universe, we are His beautiful creation.  Not only are we a part, but we are HIS best workmanship!  So, today I will walk with my head held high...I am HIS, and I AM beautiful!  Will you believe it, too?

  3. I saw a friend's 9-yr old son in the grocery store - visited with him a moment - and kept running into him throughout the store. The next to last time I ran into him he was talking to the manager and I jokingly said "are you following me?" We laughed and the manager said, "he just told me that next to his mother, you are the most beautiful woman he knows." I was stunned, because in 1&l/2 yrs I will be 70. I thought, I'm nearly 70 and he is 9, why would he even think of thinking that? I said, "Lord, is that you speaking to me - like, out of the mouth of babes?" I knew without a doubt it was God - I had been having a really rough week, and God just chose to tell me I was beautiful through a 9-year old, because He knew I needed to hear from Him a word of encouragement.

  4. Yes I believe it. It is awesome that He looks at my heart rather than the outside of me. One of the things that drew me to Fred was when we talking over the phone (had never met face-to-face) and something came up about looks. Fred said "It doesn't really matter to me how you look - I am more interested in your heart."

And to think that the Creator of the Universe feels the same way and loves ME - blemishes and all.

I am a child of the King and yes, I am beautiful!

  5. In this day and age, it is wonderful to have you share your inmost thoughts and no pretense. We all are bombarded with what we are NOT but thanks to you we are turned again to look at what God says we ARE. Blessing to you and all our dear sisters in Christ.

  7. I agree with Brenda. Us women are always wanting to feel good enough. And all the time- God is saying you are good enough. Thanks for these uplifting posts. I enjoy a good WORD from the LORD.

  8. This is great Heather and a timely reminder. I went to Passion 2011 in Ft. Worth this weekend and John Piper gave his message on how much God loves us and how He makes much of us so we can make much of Him. We were created to bring God glory and the God I know wouldn't create anything less than the best to bring glory to Himself...something I need to remind myself of daily.

PS. I love the new blog layout! :-)
